Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Analytical Chemist with expertise in rapid development of analytical assays for fermentation-derived small molecules. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in analytical method development and application thereof to different phases of a project where throughput, precision, accuracy, and cost of analysis will need to be optimized. Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and JMP software is highly desired, while familiarity with Python and Benchling would be advantageous.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and validate analytical assays for the characterization of fermentation-derived small molecules.
  • Rapidly develop assays for small molecules in early proof of concept work, while keeping an eye on maturing the methods for either high throughput screening or for high precision, high accuracy analysis.
  • Validate analytical methods according to regulatory guidelines and industry standards.
  • Transfer validated methods to third-party CMOs, ensuring seamless integration into their processes.
  • Utilize Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to optimize assay parameters and improve assay precision and accuracy.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data using statistical tools such as JMP.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Research & Development, Manufacturing, and Quality Control to support product development and process optimization.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experimental procedures, results, and observations.

Education and Experience

  • PhD with 2 years of experience OR MS with 8 years experience, OR BS with 10 years experience in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in developing and validating analytical assays for fermentation-derived small molecules.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and validating analytical methods.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and proficiency in JMP software desired.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python is desirable.
  • Experience with Benchling or similar LIMS systems a plus.
  • Experience with Liquid Chromatography coupled with Ultraviolet Detection (LC-UV) is required.
  • Familiarity with other Liquid Chromatography hyphenated techniques such as LC-RI (Refractive Index) and LC-MS (Mass Spectrometry) is desired.
  • Experience with Gas Chromatography coupled with Flame Ionization Detection (GC-FID) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Essential Physical Characteristics

The physical characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
