Senior | Principal Analytical Chemist

As a Principal or Senior Scientist in Analytical Chemistry you will help lead the analytical team by working closely with other functional groups. The candidate must be highly skilled in HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, HPLC-RID, UV, FTIR, and LC-MS-MS. The candidate must be an expert at method development, validation, and deployment for a vast range of small molecules and will have experience in structure elucidation of unknown analytes through multi-platform analytical approaches. The hired candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of the analytical equipment and will spearhead growth. She will be responsible for developing and transferring analytical methods for new processes, as well as support on-going commercialization efforts. The candidate must implement high throughput analytical programs for on a Sciex triple quad Qtrap4500 system using short run times for the analysis of thousands of samples in 96- and 384-well plates. The candidate should be able to use an array of instrumentation to detect unknown metabolites from fermentation media and have expertise in C13 analysis and metabolic profiling.

Qualifications

  • BSc/PhD science degree with 10+ years’ experience in an industrial setting with specifics for biotechnology and small molecule biomanufacturing
  • Exceptional technical and analytical proficiency with hands on knowledge of analytical methods including HPLC, LC-MS(MS), GCMS, HPLC-RID, UV, FTIR at expert level. Must have operated a Sciex triple quad Qtrap4500 or similar system with demonstrated excellence in high throughput analysis.
  • Expert understanding of analytical techniques, analytical troubleshooting, method development, and lab equipment are required.
  • Must be able to perform routine maintenance across a number of analytical machinery.
  • Expert in method development for many small molecules and complex fermentation mixtures.
  • Must have operated and supported 96- and 384-well operations to test small scale fermentation experiments
  • Expert in small molecule analysis with preference for products produced via fermentation.
  • Demonstration of small molecule elucidation and side product analysis.
  • Must collaborate in a cross-functional teams and with upper management
  • Proven track record of leading projects and delivering complicated objectives in short times
  • Ability to create an implement a LIMs system
  • Possess an internal drive for results with a can-do mentality
  • Self-motivated, creative, and flexible in a fast-moving environment with a passion to deliver results
  • Open and easy communicator with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Able to initiate projects and bring new ideas into the organization.
  • Capable of self-management and managing multiple projects and tasks at once.
